Just some quick thoughts after the first few days (and that's why eng here..."chuk sing" is never "chuk" afterall):
1. Should start from the opening game right? None of my friends do not criticize German defenders. Hmm...my impressions of the game:
- lots of chances created (yet most of them misfired...this year many "aeroplane" shots)
- goals are scored neatly (at least not an OG...of coz one can say opponent's defence also s**ks, but one cannot aruge when players fire shots like the 1st and the 4th. The two from Klose are neat as well)
- two missed offside trap led to two GA...they certainly have to work on that
Finally: lots of chances created, create 4 neat goals, loss some careless goals as well...if this team is named "Brazil", HKers would definitely say it's a good performance for an opening game. Sadly, it is Germany and one has much higher expectation for their defence...ok, for offence too, most of my friends do not appreciate 4 goals afterall --- and, afterall,
without No. 13.
2. England...nth to say. My impression is, this is not a team at all. I guess a Chelsa/Liverpool/ManU team would be better than this 'team'. Another e.g. for 1+1<2. But they got a well-taken set piece (many ppl can do that...ok, that doesn't matter anyway) which was turned into an OG; and the Swede got a draw for the first game, so they're basically in already.
3. Only watched highlight of the Argentina game, and not so familiar with the current team afterall, so cannot comment at all. Looked good in that highlight though.
4. The Netherlands is so-so...I dun think Robben should be the go-to guy (though he was in the game). Mr Nistelrooy should be the go-to guy, but his game made me wanna say "go to die".
5. I like Mexico, but they always impress in group stage then ousted in elimination in a sad way...hopefully history does not repeat this time. Always enjoyable to watch though.
6. Portugal, wow! The goal was initiated by Figo who simply outsprinted the defender without fancy dribbling...I am not sure if that is a good sign. Pauleta is that type of "national player" really --- I can never remember which club he plays for currently.
7. I missed the Japan game tonite, but I guess fellow friends there must be upset tomorrow...oh. Maybe they can hope Brazil got advanced after the 2nd game? 4 points does not look like enough to advance in this group.
8. Meanwhile, Australia's play shows that, after their introduction to AFC, China would join HKSAR in the "never-have-chance-to-play-in-World-Cup-since-then" list. OK, Aus' participation does not matter indeed...
